A trademark is defined as any sign that distinguishes goods or services or differentiates them from those of other organizations.

The foundation of a trademark registration is that the element used must be distinctive. Letters, numbers, symbols, and even first and last names can be protected through trademark registration. For a trademark or sign to be used as part of a product or service and for all rights to belong to the user, a trademark protection application must be submitted and approved by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (Türk Patent ve Marka Kurumu).

The protection period of a trademark begins from the date of application and lasts 10 years.

The registration process typically takes approximately 11–12 months. During the 10-year protection period, no other organization or entity may use the trademark without permission. The trademark owner may grant usage rights to others or transfer the rights as they wish.
